Community Conversation: What is the Stewardship Economy?
Featuring Guest Speaker: Nils Christoffersen, Executive Director of Wallowa Resources

Join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking evening with Nils Christoffersen, Executive Director of Wallowa Resources and national thought leader in rural community development and land stewardship. Nils will lead a community conversation exploring the concept of the Stewardship Economy—a place-based, regenerative approach to managing natural resources that supports both ecological health and local livelihoods.

Nils co-authored the groundbreaking report “Growing the Stewardship Economy” with the University of Michigan, helping to define how communities like ours can strengthen rural economies while enhancing the landscapes we depend on. He brings decades of experience working at the intersection of conservation, economic resilience, and rural innovation in Eastern Oregon and beyond.

This is a timely and relevant discussion for our community in northern Idaho and northwest Montana, where questions of land use, forest health, outdoor recreation, and rural economic sustainability are front and center. Whether you're a landowner, forester, educator, nonprofit leader, business owner, or simply a curious neighbor, this event is an opportunity to learn, engage, and envision a future where people and land thrive together.
